The Columbia River Music Conservatory is proud to present its 6th annual Julian Patrick Summer Workshop for Gifted High School Singers. Julian Patrick, noted baritone, passed away in 2009. He had performed worldwide with major opera companies including the Metropolitan Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Dallas Opera and Seattle Opera. He was also an experienced vocal educator. The one-week intensive camp, administered by chosen faculty, offers dedicated high school vocal students an opportunity to explore the many facets involved in developing the singer’s art, and helps them prepare for study at the college and professional level. These series of classes and workshops are aimed at young singers who are considering a career in vocal performance or vocal music education.
About The Workshops/Private Lessons
The Solo Vocal Workshops promote specific goals that have immediate and long term value for the high school vocalist. Each student will be assigned specific pieces to prepare for the workshops. They will receive daily vocal instruction, music theory and vocal coaching from our distinguished staff.
• Technical work will focus on such important topics as breathing, phonation, resonance, articulation and development of correct posture.
• Daily master classes in performance will deal with communication, style, phrasing and correct performance practice. Classes will also cover such topics as effective auditioning, convincing presentation, characterization, and analysis and understanding of texts.
• Vocal lessons will prepare singers for more effective use of their vocal instrument.
• Classes in movement will concentrate on body control and awareness, and the use of movement to aid vocal technique and communication.
• Acting classes assist the student in character analysis.
• Daily discussion sessions will concentrate on topics of interest to singers, such as what to expect at auditions, working with directors, and conductors, and college and career options.
